Birthday Bash

Three of my siblings were born in September.  Mum was born in September too.  For a number of years we celebrated all of our birthdays at one time in September.  Started calling these times together “The Bradford Birthday Bash”.  We had some fabulous get togethers, with lots of great memories created. There were even a couple of years that all 5 of us landed in the same place for the Bash.

We haven’t done this for a few years – I think we stopped because one of us is now in heaven. I don’t think she would approve of us stopping………..we just didn’t do it the year after she passed, and well, that is how things change, one step at a time.

The year we stopped was the year she would have turned 75.

On her birthday that year I was washing windows, feeling unexplainably irritable and at the same time wondering why I thought I needed to clean the windows that day……….and then this song came on.  I simply sat down on the floor right where I was and sobbed my little heart out.

Now when I hear this song, it makes me smile – and it makes me cry.  Funny how, just like the song says, “the more things change, the more they stay the same”.

Maybe we wash windows because we long to see more clearly.

Happy Birthday everyone. 🙂
