Heroes….written and performed by Ann Reed
Found myself looking for a song today – and I honestly believe this song found me. The lyrics of this song are as beautiful as the voice of the singer. Have a listen – find the YouTube live version if you can, and treat yourself to listening to the very end. It seems like the song may be ending, but instead it transitions to a sweet slide show.
So………….who would you add to your list of heroes?
Me, I would of course add Mum and my sister Grace. And then I would add all of the other mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, daughters and sons in my life.
My life heroes have….
Walked and talked with me, held my hand, laughed and cried with me.
They have reassured me with their words and their actions that “We can do this”. They have had my back when I ventured out past my comfort zone, and took the lead when I needed gentle direction.
Skipped down the road with me arm in arm.
Called me out when I missed the boat, and cheered me on when I doubted I was worthy of the joy in my life.
Respected me until I was ready to respect myself.
Showed me the way when I was feeling lost.
Taught me to break it down into manageable pieces.
Modeled ways to ‘sit through it to get through it’.
Inspired me to reach out and take a chance.
Shared with me the magic of the drum.
Challenged me to use my voice in song and chant.
Gave me permission to just be quiet and ponder the next step before jumping.
Nudged me to get at it when I sat a bit longer than I wanted to because I didn’t know how to start again.
My heroes have never given up on me.
I feel so loved.
Thanks and blessings to each and every one- I have such joy thinking about all of you. We will circle around again, there is no doubt – maybe sooner, maybe later. Until then, know that you are my inspiration to hang in, and also my reminder to treasure the present moment.
Know also that I am looking forward to seeing you again – either here or there.

I just noticed this post !! What a beautiful song …. our heroes …. what would we do without them? They all contribute to who we are today and who we are tomorrow and on and on… what you have written is very thought provoking …. as always ! Love you my hero !
